This book ...and yet God smiles is a fiction. It is about a family story of five generations connected by time. It has Norotam as a central character. He though born in a rich peasant family was reduced to an orphan child. His self belief and trust in good education propelled him to face life head on. He was both a great success and a failure in life. This was just to prove as though the process of life is only a pair of opposites like good-bad, happy-unhappy. He raised a large family but failed to fulfill all obligations of life. He somehow turned spiritual and yet failed to understand the travail of life. The whole story is woven through metaphysics and touches the raw nerve of the reader. Also one would identify with the high and low of interesting characters, problems, mists and turns of life. The story line reads as though one is reading his own life.

The people of India are distortedly called as Hindus due to historic reasons and by the invaders. It got stuck hard, through the ages.
